Carolyn G. Smith Biographical Sketch

Carolyn G. Smith served as a middle school science teacher at Start Junior High School in Richland Parish. She left in 2002 to become the Site Coordinator for Louisiana Tech University's Project LIFE. Mrs. Smith is certified to teach grades 1-8. She is also a DEEP (Developing Educational Excellence & Proficiency) in Science Leader as well as a Louisiana Teacher Assistance & Assessment Assessor and Mentor. As a proponent of science education reform, she has been an active participant in professional development opportunities across the parish, region, and state. Also a graduate of Project LIFE, Mrs. Smith has also become a successful presenter of workshops and seminars that focus on reform methodologies and strategies, alternative assessment, and standards based education.

Mrs. Smith has been awarded numerous grants while serving as a classroom teacher. She was one of the recipients of the first Environmental Education Grants from the Governor's Office of Environmental Education.
