David Merchant provides technical and information systems support, including desktop support, assessing new technologies, Web site development and maintenance, and technical writing.
David trained as an electrician and nuclear power plant operator in the U.S. Navy. After the Navy, he attended University of Tennessee at Knoxville (UTK), where he obtained a B. A. in English in 1992, and a M. S. in Information Science in 1997. After graduating with his M. S., he first worked as a Web master for UTK, and then took a job as the first systems librarian for Louisiana Tech University. After four years as systems librarian he moved to the position of Director of Integrated Technology for Louisiana Tech's Center For Applied Teaching and Learning to Yield Scientific Thinking (CATALyST).
He is currently working on a research book on cross-platform HTML. He maintains the U.S. Memorial Day Web site (http://www.usmemorialday.org), one of the oldest and largest online resources dedicated to the history, meaning and observance of Memorial Day. He is also the Web master for Sigma Tau Delta, the English Honor Society at Lousiana Tech.
