CATALyST Clue Capers

Step into the world of forensic science with CATALyST CLUE (Using Chemistry to Look at and Understand Evidence) Capers, a workshop designed to offer teachers an interactive way to engage students in the development of skills used in this real world career-based application. The three-day series provides a variety of experiences that introduces participants to the problem-based world of forensics.

Dusting for fingerprints and DNA fingerprinting, handwriting and document analysis, blood typing and blood splatter analysis, glass and bone analysis, toxicology and a final crime scene investigation scenario-with each component participants use critical thinking and process skills as they immerse themselves in the techniques and investigative tools that professionals use every day when solving crimes and answering life and death questions. Experience the inquiry-based simulation of real connections through standards-based strategies that help prepare teachers as effective guides for their science students.
