Linda Ramsey, Director for CATALyST, was honored by the Louisiana Science Teachers Association (LSTA) with the first annual Claudia Fowler Distinguished Service to Science Education Award. Presented at the organization's state convention held in New Orleans, LA, 5 December 2003, the award recognizes her extraordinary contributions to the advancement of science education in the sciences and in science teaching.
The driving force behind CATALyST, Ramsey herself has become a catalyst in K-12 science and math education by designing and delivering professional development tools to teachers. Nominated by CATALyST Program Coordinator, Cathi Cox, Ramsey was noted for bringing in over $10 million in funding to develop and present such projects and courses in an effort to assist teachers. More then 1,800 teachers from five states and over 900 schools have been involved in her projects.
Cox shared that Ramsey "just has incredible vision; she is always seeing opportunities for teachers. Perpetual motion is just her way. She goes for what she wants and that is what makes her so successful."
Ramsey in turn was very humbled by the award. "I was recognized for this award, but it's the work of lots of people. I'm in charge so I get the credit, but I have seven full time staff members who help so much." And that help has ultimately been there for teachers and students who continue to be impacted by the work of this dynamic and visionary leader.
CATALyST joins LSTA in congratulating Linda Ramsey, while saluting her remarkable work.
